Big Ground Chakkar

A big ground chakkar is a spinning ground cracker: a wheel pinned flat to the ground that, once lit, spins and throws a ring of coloured sparks outward as it turns. It's the larger sibling of the standard ground chakkar: same spinning mechanic, but a wider spark radius and a longer spin than the small size gives. There's no launch and no projectile involved; everything happens at ground level within the radius the spin covers.

Compared to the small chakkar, which is sized for compact spaces and stays apartment-safe, the big version needs a genuinely open, flat patch of ground because the spark ring reaches further out. Every chakkar in the range, big included, keeps the same low-noise profile. It's a visual cracker, not a loud one, which makes it a common pick for younger family members to watch even where louder aerial items aren't suitable.

Setup is what makes a big chakkar safe or not. It has to be pinned firmly into the ground so it can't skate or tip mid-spin, on a clear flat patch with nothing flammable in the radius it'll cover, and everyone should stand well back once it's lit rather than crowding in to watch.

A ground spinner, low noise, but the wider spin radius on the big size means it needs more open space than the small chakkar does.

Choose an open patch away from buildings and parked vehicles, and lay out water and sand first. Light each item singly with an agarbatti, stand back, and never lean over a cracker; a misfire gets water, not a second match. Sparklers are the only thing a child should hold, and always with an adult beside them.
