Navratri Crackers 2026

Navaratri is observed in honour of the goddess Durga, herself an aspect of Adi Parashakti, the supreme goddess in the tradition (Wikipedia). The festival runs across nine nights (Wikipedia), each traditionally dedicated to a different form of the goddess, and in Gujarat and much of West India those nights are built around garba and dandiya, circular folk dances performed around a lit lamp or an image of the goddess, often lasting well past midnight. North India tends to mark the same nine nights with fasting and Ramlila performances building toward Dussehra, so the tone shifts from dance-ground celebration to a build-up for the effigy-burning day that follows it. There are, in fact, several Navratris through the Hindu calendar year, and the first of them falls in the month of Chaitra (Wikipedia). The autumn edition most households associate with garba and crackers comes later in the year and leads directly into Dussehra.

Because Navratri's bursting is spread across nine nights rather than concentrated on one, it's easy to assume the rules relax as the festival goes on. They don't. Bursting hours are set by the state, check the 2026 notification from your city police or state pollution control board for the exact window.

The same national baseline applies before any local rule.
