Baisakhi Crackers 2026

Vaisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakh and is traditionally celebrated on 13 or 14 April (Wikipedia), doubling as the date of the Indian Solar New Year (Wikipedia). At its base it's a spring harvest celebration, marking the ripening and cutting of the Rabi crop, chiefly wheat, across Punjab and much of northern India (Wikipedia). For Sikhs the day carries a second layer entirely separate from the harvest: on 13 April 1699, Guru Gobind Singh founded the Khalsa Panth at Anandpur Sahib, the order that gave Sikhism its distinct identity and code of conduct (EBSCO Research Starters). The two threads run together on the same day rather than as separate observances, wheat-cutting gratitude in the fields and Khalsa commemoration at the gurdwara, which is why Baisakhi evenings mix bhangra and gidda dance circles with religious processions in a way no other festival on this list does. It's also worth naming what Baisakhi isn't: unlike Lohri's midwinter bonfire in January, Baisakhi lands three months later in spring, after the harvest is already in rather than before it. Punjab's calendar effectively bookends the cold season with these two harvest festivals, a fire-lit start in January and a field-lit close in April, and this page covers the second of the pair. Households that mark both tend to treat Baisakhi as the bigger of the two, since it lands after the harvest is fully in and the fields are clear enough for a proper open-ground display rather than a fire circle in a courtyard. A larger open ground also means a wider spread of picks makes sense at once, from ground-level spinners near the dance circle to aerials further out where there's no crowd underneath.
