Sky shots win for anyone who wants a sustained aerial show: a single lit fuse triggers a sequence of bursts overhead, one after another, from a compact multi-tube cake. A standalone aerial shell trades that sequence for one wide, concentrated burst per shell, which suits a single dramatic moment more than an ongoing display. Neither is for apartments or for kids to handle.

The core split is single-shell versus multi-shell. A sky shot is built as a cake: a bank of tubes fused together so lighting it once sets off a run of bursts, from a single-shot cracker up through 12, 25, and 30-shot versions that stretch the display out longer as the count climbs. Each shot in the sequence bursts independently overhead, so the effect reads as a mini-show rather than one moment.

An aerial shell is the opposite instinct: one shell, one mortar tube, one wide burst. It's fired standalone rather than banked with others, so what you get is concentrated into a single cycle instead of spread across a sequence. That makes it better suited to marking one specific moment, such as the opening or closing act of a session, rather than filling several minutes on its own.

Both categories share the same ground rules once lit: the launch tube needs to sit on firm, level ground, and everyone needs to clear back to at least 15 metres before ignition, since both are adult-only, high-noise aerial effects. Neither is remotely apartment-appropriate; they need genuinely open ground.
