Green Cracker Gift Boxes: What to Check Before You Buy

The NEERI logo, the QR code, and what a certified green gift box should let you verify before it reaches someone else's home.

5 assorted gift boxes in the live 2026 price list, from ₹669.

One sealed box holds a mixed set of sparklers, chakkars, flower pots and small sound crackers, so the person receiving it gets a whole evening rather than one item. Minimum order ₹3,000, prepaid by UPI, delivery across India.

The boxed sets are sold out for now. The ready-made gift packs below are built from in-stock crackers and order like any other pack.

See every gift box

You will not be standing next to the recipient when they open this box, and that is exactly why the certification check matters more here than it does for a box you're keeping for yourself. If you buy for your own terrace and get it wrong, you carry the risk. If you buy a gift and get it wrong, someone else opens a box that looks compliant, uses it in good faith, and inherits a problem that was yours to catch. Since the Supreme Court's 23 October 2018 judgment in Arjun Gopal v Union of India, only crackers certified green by CSIR-NEERI may lawfully be manufactured or sold in India at all, which means "green" isn't a marketing tier here: it's the only category that's legal to gift in the first place. The rest of this page is about how to confirm, before you buy, that what's in the box actually clears that bar.

Why This Matters More for a Gift

A gift box removes the one check a buyer normally does for themselves: opening it and looking closely before use. The recipient trusts that whoever chose the box already did that work, which means the certification check has effectively moved from the point of use to the point of purchase, from them to you. The stakes of getting it wrong aren't abstract either. In an October 2025 Supreme Court relaxation that permitted a short green-cracker sale window in Delhi-NCR, the order was explicit that crackers containing barium or lacking NEERI approval would be confiscated on sight, even during the permitted window. That risk sits with whoever is holding the box when it's checked, not with whoever gave it. None of this is only a compliance footnote, either: India's organised corporate-gifting segment was reported at roughly Rs 12,000 crore in 2022 with a projected rise to about Rs 18,000 crore by 2027, according to ET Retail data cited by ChocoCraft, and industry commentary for the 2026 season points to buyers increasingly weighing a gift's story and provenance rather than only its unit cost. A genuine certificate is part of that provenance, not a technicality bolted onto it.

What to Look for on the Box

Every genuine green cracker carries two things printed on its packaging: the green CSIR-NEERI logo, and a unique QR code next to it. Absence of either is a warning sign on its own, not a maybe. It also helps to know what "green" changes and what it doesn't. Under the certification standard behind that logo, a certified green cracker must deliver at least a 30% reduction in particulate-matter emissions against a conventional cracker of the same type, or a 20% PM cut paired with at least a 10% reduction in gaseous emissions such as SO2 and NO2. That comes from a smaller shell and less ash-forming raw material, plus dust-suppressant additives that release water vapour or air during the burn. What it does not change is the experience itself: a green cracker still sparks, flashes and bangs the way a conventional one in the same category does. It is less polluting, not pollution-free, and a gift box marketed as silent or emission-free on that basis alone is overselling the certification, not describing it. The formulations behind this, CSIR-NEERI's SWAS, STAR and SAFAL lines, are also kept free of the barium, mercury and arsenic that PESO's approval requirement excludes.

What the QR Code Should Show

The mechanics of scanning and reading that QR code are covered in full on our NEERI QR code guide, so this page won't repeat the how-to. What matters for a gift buyer specifically is the outcome: scanning a genuine code should surface the product's licence and approvals, along with a CSIR-NEERI certification reference. If the code doesn't open, or opens to something that doesn't show those details, the box in front of you is not a genuine certified green cracker, whatever the packaging claims. That is a clean pass-fail test you can run in a shop before you commit to a box for someone else, and it takes less time than choosing the ribbon.

Where It Is Not Optional

Certification is necessary, but for a gift crossing city or state lines it is not sufficient on its own. The Supreme Court's baseline, clarified in November 2023 to apply across all states rather than only Delhi-NCR, restricts lawful sale nationwide to green crackers and fixes the legal bursting window at 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali and similar festivals, and 11:55 pm to 12:30 am on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. On top of that national floor, the National Green Tribunal's orders from November and December 2020 direct that only green crackers may be sold or used, and only within a two-hour festival window, in cities where average air quality is "moderate" or worse. Where it is "poor" or worse still, the direction is a total ban on sale and use, certified or not. States, union territories and city pollution-control bodies then layer their own yearly notifications on top of that, and Delhi has repeatedly gone further than the national baseline, imposing additional total bans on manufacture, storage, sale and bursting of all firecrackers, green ones included, through the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. None of these local notifications are static. They're reissued for each festival season and can change from one year to the next, which is exactly why nothing on this page is a substitute for checking the current one yourself: treat it as orientation rather than legal advice, and confirm the recipient's 2026 state or city notification before you assume a genuinely certified box is usable where it's going. A genuinely certified box bought with good intentions can still land on a recipient whose city has closed the window entirely that 2026. And because this is a gift, not a stock order, it's worth remembering that the same order governing certification also reaffirmed that firecrackers cannot be bought or sold through any e-commerce platform, so however it reaches you, it did not come through an online cart.
