Diwali Cracker Offers: How to Spot a Real Deal

Diwali offers on crackers range from genuine bulk savings to inflated MRP tricks. Learn the signs that separate the two apart.

Diwali cracker offers flood every seller's page in the weeks before the festival, and most of them are less generous than the banner makes them look. Spotting a real deal means understanding the number the discount is being calculated from, because in the fireworks trade that starting number is rarely honest on its own.

The MRP problem behind most "offers"

Sivakasi manufacturers conventionally print MRPs at 4-5x the real trade price, a labelling convention that has nothing to do with any particular sale. A box's net rate typically lands 4-to-5x below its printed MRP anyway, discount or no discount. So when a seller advertises "80% off," check whether that's a genuine one-time cut or simply the standard net-rate conversion dressed up as a promotion. Most of the time, it's the latter.

Questions that separate a real offer from a relabelled one

Ask the seller, or check the listing, for the actual net rate, not just the percentage. If two sellers show wildly different "% off" banners but land on close to the same net rate once you do the maths, neither is offering you anything the other isn't. A genuine seasonal offer stacks on top of the normal net rate, an inflated-MRP "discount" just restates the ordinary trade price using a bigger starting number.

Watch for MRP inflation stacking

Some listings go further and inflate the MRP beyond the standard 4-5x ratio specifically to make the percentage-off figure look bigger. There's no way to catch this from the percentage alone, you have to look at the net rate. If a seller can explain their MRP-to-net-rate ratio plainly, that's a good sign. If they only ever show the percentage and dodge the underlying number when asked, treat the listing with more caution.

Bundle offers deserve the same scrutiny

A combo or gift box marketed as an "offer" should still be judged item by item where possible. Add up what a comparable spread of individual categories, sparklers, ground items, a few sound crackers, would cost at net rate, and compare that total to the bundle price. A bundle that's genuinely cheaper than buying the same mix separately is a real deal; one that's simply repackaging the same net-rate items under a new banner isn't. This matters most with gift-box style combos, where the packaging itself can make an ordinary spread of items look like a curated saving when it's really just a convenient way to buy the same categories in one order.

Minimum order value isn't a hidden fee

One thing to expect, not a deal or a trick: online sellers commonly set a minimum order value because couriers price fireworks as hazardous goods per parcel under the Explosives Rules 2008. That threshold applies regardless of any offer running, and it's a delivery-cost reality rather than a pricing gimmick. Don't let a seller frame "free shipping above ₹X" as part of the offer itself; it's usually just where their normal minimum order value already sits.

Buying with confidence

Individual net-rate pricing on our catalogue is refreshed each season right now. Once it's live, the crackers price list will show category-by-category net rates directly, and how crackers are priced: net rate vs MRP covers the underlying mechanic in full.
